Drinking Water Safety Plans (DWSP) have been promoted the World Heath Organization (WHO) as a more responsive approach to drinking water safety, regulation and public health for over a decade. The Province of Alberta is one of the first jurisdictions in North America to incorporate DWSPs into the regulatory framework.
In 2012 the Alberta government confirmed that completing a DWSP would become a regulatory requirement.
It quickly became apparent that DWSP completion would be a challenge for many smaller Alberta communities. Consequently AWWOA in partnership with Rural Alberta Development Fund, facilitated support for rural Alberta municipalities in developing DWSPs.
AWWOA's DWSP Completion Sessions Report provides an evaluation summary of the work completed.
