All AWWOA courses are developed specifically with operator competencies in mind. The certification preparation courses are developed to help operators prepare for writing the provincial exam. Course curriculum, content and questions are intended to reflect what an operator may be tested on during the certification exam.
Classroom Courses
- Students are responsible for their own accommodation and meals.
- Pre-registration is required. (walk-in/on-site registration not available)
- Students to bring their own calculator to class (as required).
Correspondence and Home Study Courses
- Students have one year from receipt of materials to complete these courses.
- Once registered any materials will be mailed via Canada Post within 1-3 business days. Email notification will be sent.
- Anyone who does not complete the correspondence or home study course within the one year time frame must re-register, re-pay, and redo the course if credit is desired.
- Registrations accepted all year.
- Correspondence and home study courses consist of reference manuals, workbooks or lessons, supplemental training videos (now available online) and information will be sent with your course package. (Note: Course videos on a USB for some courses included but must be returned to the AWWOA office).
- Home study courses are to be completed and self-marked. Correspondence courses must scan and e-mail their completed lessons in a PDF format for marking.
- A course completion exam is proctored by supervisor or someone with a professional designation (eg. doctor, lawyer, teacher, engineer, etc.) or in an administrative/office capacity.
- All home study material may be kept.
- Applicants who wish to write the certification exam must qualify and MUST apply to the Alberta Environment Water and Wastewater Operator Certification Portal (Compliance365) during the application window for exams (approvals every two months). To qualify, successful course completion must be achieved prior to the submission of the online certification exam application and the course completion certificate must be uploaded with the application. Applicants will also need one year of recognized experience to qualify for certification status. Online Training
- To register for an online course; you must create a Profile on our website. User information is saved under an email address and user password. If you do not receive a confirmation e-mail notice, you are not registered.
- Students have one year from registration date to complete an online training course.
- Registrations are accepted all year.
- Courses consist of unit chapters for study which include units review questions. All unit quizzes are marked automatically online.
- Online assistance via instructor's e-mail and phone.
- Course completion exam is proctored and automatically marked online, student's supervisor (proctor) is required to register and the account will then be assigned with proctor rights to unlock course completion exams.

Note:
- All AWWOA courses are approved for CEUs by Alberta Environment.
- The pass mark on all AWWOA course completion exams is 70%. One re-write of the course completion exam is allowed. Anyone achieving less that 70% on the re-write exam must re-register, re-pay and re-take the course.
