Canada Post Strike Impacts on AWWOA Mailouts
On Friday, November 15th, The Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) went on strike. As a result, Canada Post will not be processing or delivering mail and parcels for the duration of the national strike. As AWWOA primarily uses Canada Post for mailing services, there is potential for impacts. Please read below for more information on how these are being addressed.
While we are limiting our mailouts during this time, AWWOA will be using Purolator for necessary items. Unfortunately, we are unable to deliver to PO Boxes. A physical mailing address will be required. If the provided address results in undelivered material, you will be responsible for the extra shipping fees required to re-send.
Correspondence Training
AWWOA members are discouraged from registering for homestudy/correspondence courses during the strike. To reduce the potential for extra shipping costs and mailing delays, AWWOA members can register for online certification preparation courses. Click here to see our available options.
Those still interested in pursuing correspondence courses will be responsible for any extra fees incurred when returning material to us (if applicable).
Ordering AWWOA Manuals
The shipping & handling fee for purchasing AWWOA manuals will increase from $20-$40 depending on the number of items and delivery location. You will receive a shipping quote at the time of ordering.
Returning Completed Course Material
Going forward, students enrolled in the Mathematics Correspondence and Water Treatment Plant Operations Correspondence courses are asked to scan their completed units and send them to jhorning@awwoa.ca in a PDF format. This is a procedure that will continue after the strike, but it is extra important to follow at this time to avoid lost units and mailing delays.
Course Completion Exams
AWWOA members currently registered in a homestudy/correspondence course are discouraged from writing physical course completion exams. To reduce shipping costs and mailing delays, AWWOA members can write the course completion exam online.
If a physical course completion exam is preferred, students are responsible for the increased mailing fee from services such as Purolator. The estimated fee is $15-$20, depending on where the student is located. They will also be responsible for the fee to return the completed exam back to the AWWOA office.
Students completing the Mathematics Correspondence, Water Treatment Plant Operations and Pumps: Theory, Operation and Maintenance Homestudy courses are still required to write a physical course completion exam. They will not be required to pay the additional fee to mail out the exam but are responsible for the increased fee to send the completed exam back to the AWWOA office.
Payment for Invoices
We are currently unable to receive payment via cheques sent through Canada Post. To avoid any complications with receiving course completion certificates/continuing education units (CEUs), students are encouraged to provide credit card payment at the time of registration.
For those interested in providing payment through Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT), please
e-mail Kirstin Mihaychuk at kmihaychuk@awwoa.ca. Students will not receive course completion certificates/CEUs until payment has been received.
If you have any questions about these impacts, please reach out to
Jenna Horning at jhorning@awwoa.ca.
