In this workshop, the complete life cycle of phosphorous as it pertains to the water and wastewater industry will be discussed. The content will cover the following areas:
• Mining of Phosphate rocks,
• Phosphorous usage in food and other industries,
• Occurrence of phosphorous in municipal wastewater,
• Characteristics and various classification methods of phosphorous in raw wastewater,
• Regulatory direction related to phosphorous,
• Fate of phosphorous through a typical wastewater treatment plant,
• Enhanced biological phosphorus removal,
• Occurrence of phosphorous in the biosolids,
• Fate of phosphorous in the biosolids-applied soil, and
• Ideas for long-term phosphorous sustainability.
This will be a classroom type workshop with a number of interactive and fun classroom activities.
