No water. No municipality. Water is a finite resource essential to all dimensions of municipal sustainability.
Over the past several years AUMA has engaged our members in developing water policies, plans and resources to help municipalities respond to the broad range of water-related issues they face. The operation and maintenance of municipal water systems is one of the primary responsibilities of municipalities. As prime water suppliers, municipalities have an obligation to be stewards of the valuable water resource that they manage, be fiscally responsible to their customers; and maintain safe, reliable operations that provide quality water services to their communities.
Municipalities have been challenged to provide sustainable water and wastewater services in light of aging infrastructure, regulatory changes, funding shortfalls, a shortage of skilled operators, and challenges in responding to regionalization opportunities. As a result, AUMA has been actively involved in the evolution of water policy in Alberta. The presentation will explore the policy environment, examples of the municipal water policies, and interactive discussion on how it all affects the industry’s operators.

Presenters:
Ms. Jillian Cormier - Water & Wastewater Services Coordinator, AUMA/AMSC
