Outline

By the end of this workshop, operators should be able to:

- Identify the major physical and chemical properties of chlorine and hypochlorites.
- Define basic chlorination terms.
- Identify the factors that affect disinfection.
- Describe a UV disinfection system and its components.
- Describe an Ozone disinfection system and its components
- Explain the advantages and disadvantages of different disinfection systems
- Identify safety precautions, awareness and different system requirements
- Identify points of disinfection application and their advantages and disadvantages.
- Understand the reactions of chlorine in water and their relationship to “breakpoint” chlorination.
- Describe the significance of maintaining chlorine residual throughout the distribution system.
